The place

PR6.2 branches off the busier Rabaçal trail network and follows the Levada do Alecrim along the edge of the Paul da Serra plateau to the levada's own spring at Ribeira do Lajeado, about 3.5 km each way. It's rated easy and stays relatively flat, a good alternative when the Rabaçal car park and the 25 Fontes trail are jammed. At 1,300 m, the plateau's weather can turn far faster than the coast implies.

When to come

Clear mornings — check a Paul da Serra forecast or webcam specifically, since fog here doesn't correlate with conditions on the coast.

Worth knowing

  • Starts from the Rabaçal parking area on ER105 — same car park as the busier 25 Fontes trail
  • Easy grade but remote — limited signal and no facilities along the way
  • Can be muddy given the altitude and frequent cloud cover
  • About 2h30 each way, so budget 5+ hours for a full round trip
