The place
A short, almost flat levada walk from Ribeiro Frio to a balcony looking straight up the Metade valley at the high peaks. The shortest effort-to-payoff ratio on Madeira, and the one to do with anyone who does not want a hike.
When to come
Early, before cloud fills the valley and hides the peaks you came for.
Worth knowing
- Genuinely easy — pushchair-capable in places
- Roadside parking at Ribeiro Frio fills fast; do not block the road
- Chaffinches will land on your hand; please do not feed them bread
