The place
One of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, with a glass-floored platform pushed out over the drop. Below it, reachable by cable car, are the fajãs — terraces farmed for centuries at the base of the cliff.
When to come
Late afternoon, when the light comes across the cliff face rather than straight down it.
