The place

Right beside the Miradouro do Fio viewpoint near Fajã da Ovelha and Ponta do Pargo, this small rustic tea house grows its own herbs and serves simple Madeiran plates alongside tea on a flowery terrace facing the Atlantic. It's the reward at the far end of the west-coast drive, past Prazeres, where the island runs out of road.

When to come

Late afternoon into sunset, timed with the viewpoint next door

Worth knowing

  • Small kitchen — menu is short, lean toward tea and light plates
  • Right next to the Miradouro do Fio clifftop viewpoint
  • Salão de Baixo, Ponta do Pargo, Calheta — a detour, not a drive-through stop
  • Check hours before the trip; it's a small, seasonal-feeling operation
