Levada dos Cedros (PR14)
One of Madeira's oldest levadas, laced through fogbound ancient forest near Fanal.

The place
Levada dos Cedros draws from springs above 1,000 m on the slopes of Ribeira da Janela and is one of the oldest irrigation channels on the island, dating to the 1600s. The walk between Fanal and Curral Falso stays inside dense, dripping laurissilva the entire way, quiet even by levada standards.
When to come
Clear mornings for forest light; fog is common on the Paul da Serra plateau year-round, so check conditions before driving up.
