The place

Tucked between Lamaceiros and Feiteira do Nuno on the plateau near Santana, Aguage is reached by a short gravel path from a small pull-off to a single-drop cascade with a plunge pool big enough for a cold dip. It stays quiet mostly because it isn't signposted from the main road.

When to come

Warmer months if you plan to swim; after rain for fuller flow, though the path can get muddy.

Worth knowing

  • Park on Estrada de St. António near house no. 44, then walk Caminho da Ribeira do Cantinho
  • About 10-15 minutes each way on gravel/dirt — fine in trainers when dry
  • Small plunge pool suitable for a quick swim, cold year-round
  • No facilities; pack out any rubbish
