The place

This is the drive-up trailhead that makes Pico Ruivo achievable without the exposure of PR1 — a paved car park at 1600m feeding a cobbled path that gains under 300m to the summit. Right at the car park stands Homem em Pé, a wind-carved rock pillar locals nicknamed the Standing Man.

When to come

Early morning, for calm light and to beat the cloud that tends to build over the ridge by late morning.

Worth knowing

  • Reached by paved road — no pre-dawn hike-in required, unlike Areeiro
  • SIMplifica booking and the trail fee still apply even for this short walk
  • Cobbled steps get slick when wet or frosted in winter
  • Homem em Pé rock formation is right at the trailhead, worth the two-minute detour
