The place
A levada channel spills off the cliff above the old ER101 and lands directly on the roadway before running into the sea, so anyone walking through gets an unplanned shower. It's a five-minute walk from the roadside pull-off, and one of the few Madeira waterfalls you experience at street level rather than from a trail.
When to come
Morning, before tour traffic on the old coast road picks up; avoid right after heavy rain when flow gets dangerous.
Worth knowing
- Short, flat walk of about 400m from the parking area
- Wear shoes you don't mind getting wet
- Narrow, uneven road surface, watch for cars
- Between Ponta do Sol and Madalena do Mar on the old ER101
