The place
The north coast at its most dramatic: black volcanic sand, vertical green cliffs behind, and waterfalls dropping straight onto the road. Praia da Laje has natural pools that are quieter than Porto Moniz.

Late morning, once the sun clears the cliffs behind the beach.
