The place

Bica da Cana sits right where the flat, treeless Paul da Serra plateau drops toward the central peaks, which makes it one of the few spots where you get both the plateau's big sky and a clean line of sight to Pico Ruivo and Pico do Areeiro. A renovated picnic area makes it as easy to linger here as it is to just snap a photo and go.

When to come

Sunrise — a cloud inversion frequently pools in the valleys below while the viewpoint stays clear.

Worth knowing

  • Small parking area and a renovated picnic spot right at the viewpoint
  • Exposed and often windy — this is the edge of the high plateau
  • Starting point for PR17 toward Pináculo and Folhadal
  • Can fog in within minutes even when the coast below is clear
