The place
The cable car departs from Parque Almirante Reis on the Funchal seafront and climbs 3.7km to Monte, gaining about 560m of elevation in roughly 15 minutes above rooftops, ravines and terraced gardens. It's the easiest way up to the toboggan run and Monte Palace Garden, and the harbor views on the descent alone justify the fare.
