The place
Named for the buzzards that once nested on this cliff, Ninho da Manta looks down into the Fajã da Nogueira valley from a platform just a few minutes along PR1 from the Pico do Areeiro car park. It's the way to get a taste of that ridge trail's views without booking the whole one-way crossing.
When to come
Same sunrise window as Pico do Areeiro, since it's an easy add-on from the same car park.
Worth knowing
- A short, mostly flat walk from the Areeiro car park along the start of PR1
- Exposed viewing platform — wind gusts here even when the car park feels calm
- Nesting habitat for Zino's petrel nearby — keep to the path
- Pair it with Pico do Areeiro sunrise rather than a separate trip
