The place
From the Jardim da Serra side of the massif, Boca da Corrida looks into the same crater valley as Eira do Serrado but from a viewpoint most visitors never find, reached by a narrow road up from Estreito de Câmara de Lobos. It's also the trailhead for the old royal path over Pico Grande, so hikers pass through even when sightseers don't.
When to come
Late afternoon, when low light rakes across the valley walls and the crowds are elsewhere.
Worth knowing
- Small parking area with no facilities — bring your own water
- Starting point for PR12 toward Pico Grande, currently only passable to about km 3.5
- Narrow, winding access road up from Estreito de Câmara de Lobos
